This may be of interest to some of you!
Christof
Dear Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society,
It is with great enthusiasm that I am reaching out to you today. First, I would like to announce to you the creation of Animal History, the first journal of record in the field, published by the University of California Press and housed at the University of Dayton. Animal History seeks to cultivate and publish cutting-edge historical research on the histories of animals and human-animal relationships. Animal History will address a long-standing gap in historical scholarship (which is traditionally focused on creating a record of human agency) by providing research that documents the impact that humans have had on animals and that animals have had on human history, culture, language, environment, and life. The journal’s scope is global and encompasses all time periods from the late Paleolithic to the early twenty-first century. Our website with more information regarding the journal and our mission can be found at https://online.ucpress.edu/ah.
Second, on behalf of the editorial team, I would like to acknowledge and thank you for the work you have done and are doing in historical animal studies, animal history, or more-than-human studies. Your organizations work in hosting research projects and providing students with master and doctoral programs is greatly appreciated by our journal.
Third, I hope you will spread the word to scholars, colleagues, graduate students, your institutional libraries, and relevant publics. We currently have a Call for Papers out and our pipeline for submissions is open!
The editorial team includes Lead Editors Thomas Aiello (Valdosta State University), Susan Nance (University of Guelph), and Dan Vandersommers (University of Dayton) and Associate Editors Joanna Dean (Carleton University), Ted Geier (University of California, Davis), and Erica Hill (University of Alaska Southeast & National Science Foundation). You may find our Book Review Editors and Advisory Board members listed on our manuscript system website. (See CFP.)
I am happy to answer any questions you may have and hope you will consider submitting to, or reading the articles of, Animal History in the future!
Sincerely,
Phillip Cicero
Editorial Assistant of Animal History
University of Dayton
